Singapore Airlines Airbus A380A 38 year old  British man living in Sydney, Australia, who sold his internet business Direct Connection for an undisclosed sum in 2000, has paid £50,000 to fly in seat 1A in the first class area of  next week’s  inaugural flight of the Airbus A380 between Singapore and Sydney. Julian Hayward won an  online ticket  auction run by Singapore Airlines which raised more than £500,000 for charity. Hayward has enjoyed previous adventures on a nuclear submarine, as well as having flown in a  Russian MiG-25 fighter jet.

ERMIS2A new 124-ft superyacht capable of speeds up to 60 knots is the latest creation from New Zealand yacht builder McMullen & Wing. Their ERMIS2 vessel is capable of speeds similar to small powerboats and is powered by three MTU16V 4000 M90 series engines, generating some 10,900 bhp. The superyacht offers true luxury also, with four staterooms, a well-appointed salon and entertaining areas, and a generous array of navigation and communications systems. Sea trials on the boat are continuing until November.

Emirates and the A380

Emirates A380Emirates has 58 of the huge, double-decked  A380 planes  on order, and has announced that it will be flying from Dubai to a number of destinations before the end of the year. Flights from Dubai  to New York begin in October 2008 and  will be  followed by Dubai-London Heathrow flights from 1st December 2008. Routes with the  A380 to Sydney and Auckland will begin on 1st February 2009. The aircraft on these routes will have 489 seats – 14 in first class, 76 in business and 399 in economy.
